Yelich for the win.

I’ve worked on every key art campaign produced at MLB since 2013 and have directed athletes including Pedro Martinez, Anthony Rizzo, Mookie Betts, Corey Seager, Alex Bregman, Pete Alonso, and more. Presenting young stars at the top of their game with bigger than life, epic, awesomeness is always an incredibly exciting experience for them and for our brand.

We choose Christian Yelich as the face of R.B.I. Baseball 20 coming off his MVP 2019.

But, late in the summer of 2019 he suffered an injury that put an end to his historic season. Christian would be back in action in the late fall and we knew we wanted to tie into the announcement of the Brewer’s latest Jersey, but this meant that we’d have less than a week to produce, shoot, motion design, and edit the RBI 20 cover and reveal video.

We decided to work with the awesome photographer Tim Tadder and build all shots practically. As a result, we avoided the time and effort to key, motion track, and comp backgrounds in post but had to build a concept that presented Yelich in the most seductive way possible using a black draped, underlit stage as a starting point.

Literally anything shot on Red @ 4K/90FPS MoVi/Gimbal looks great.

We went with stadium lights, lots of smoke, tons of rim light, and extreme close ups of jersey and detail to wrap him in an air of mystery. Cutting between scenics of Miller Park, the fans, and hints of action, we finally reveal Yelich in a dramatic fashion as he steps out of the shadows. This seductive approach was amazing because the raw export was gorgeous and only required the smallest color correct and motion design on top.

High quality = high engagement

Yelich, and the Brewers were so excited about the quality that they promoted the asset organically on their social sites and we generated a ton of great buzz about the product itself.
